All About Lips

merry xoxo signatureLip Shades

This up-close-and-personal post featuring (my) lips makes me feel a bit uncomfy since I’m normally more all about the eyes, and so not used to taking close-ups of my own mouth! Haha Besides, my lips are a bit dark around the edges as you’ll see.

Anyway, inspired by @TheGlitterGeek’s Arianne, who tweeted a snap shot of her lippies in the pocket of her purse last week, I decided to clean out my own bag and found these:

Makeup tools for lips

My travel-sized lip brush, a matte Red lippy from a local brand in the Philippines called Ever Bilena (which most people I know are ashamed of but should not be). It’s cheap, it works, it’s tried & tested. Buy Filipino (too)! A MAC Amplified lipstick in Vegas Volt, a Cover Girl Lip Shine in Berry, a cream lippy by Joe Fresh in Baie Sauvage and a Bloom Lip Tint in Plum/Berry.

After applying my “no makeup face” and in between mommy duties (oh, if you could only hear the, “Noelle, sit down… Come brush your teeth…Pick your Bedtime story!” in the background with her dad and me, in between photos haha! I applied the above lip stash on one at a time so I could show you how adding a hint of colour, or a pop of colour can do wonders to a busy girl’s “Summer-light makeup” face.

#ProTips: In this extreme weather alert Toronto Heat, or wherever you are, dont neglect your lips. Moisturize with a lip balm (or just petroleum jelly) at night and brush or rub over your lips with a face towel when you get up to wash your face and brush your teeth in the morning to reveal soft, smooth lips. Protect them with a hydrating lip product with an SPF and avoid ultra shiny gloss that could cause more UV damage when reflected or magnified on the thin membrane on the lips. Avoid licking dry lips as enzymes in our saliva actually dries lips out more.

Here are my lips stash (features) in photos. Got to sign out and catch some zzZ’s now…

bare lips mufe

My go-to (de-tubed and not pictured) liptick. Make Up For Ever Natural Transparent. On Smoky Eyes or lazy no makeup days…

Bloom Lip Tint

My Bloom shea butter lip tint for my daily lip conditioner or “subway gloss”. So easy to apply, moisturizes and evens out my lip colour.

Cover Girl Lip tint

Got this from an aunt as a gift. Soft and fresh to go with my purple or choco/taupe soft smoky eye wardrobe. Hydrates and not sticky at all.

From my recent MAC Pro trip with makeup artists Arianne and Tess… The search for more Summer brights and Corals began with this MAC Vegas Volt lipstick. (It’s more orange than it shows in the poor lighting of these photos. Sorry!

JF Baie Sauvage

My current fave. Joe Fresh Cream Lipstick in Baie Sauvage brightens up the face in just a couple of sweeps! On a flawless face base and lots of mascara day matched with a like-hued Summer dress or top #statement #fashionpair

Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick. Gwyneth Paltrow
ever belena

Ever Bilena- from a drugstore in the Philippines ($2.50). I should’ve grabbed more shades! This, and NARS Pure Matte lipstick in Terre de Feu are my kick @$$ red lipsticks. Wear with almost anything- not just for those LBD nights!

  1. oh so pretty. Good Job Marry. I have that joe fresh and I love it but it just looks too odd with my skin colour…I cannot believe how good it looks on you, very jealous.

    • Thanks Jill! It’s a great colour but I guess it’s better on warmer skin tones..? Tons of lip shades that look great on others in my kit but look awful on me! So I know where you’re coming from. Thanks for the comment:) xo

    • I really love Stain and Plum in the Lip Tint sticks, not they look like thin stylo-like lipsticks. I wish I’d bought more to bring back to Toronto:(
