It’s going to be all hearts and flowers and fully booked restaurant reservations this coming Thursday. But whether you love Feb 14th, or think of it as “just another day” – here’s an easy ‘Get the Look’ for you. I thought I’d combine my next “New Year, New Look (brand)” product reviews with this tutorial and show you an easy, soft and feminine look that can carry you from day to date in less than 10 minutes!
I even added a bit of 2013′s Pantone Color of the year in this look to… You know…Add that extra spin and boost those good vibes for whatever you have planned with your special someone or your family this coming long weekend;) It’s a fresh, feminine look that will just enhance your natural beauty and go with any outfit. And for that first date.. You won’t look like you’re trying too hard. It’s so fresh and easy!
Base: Nars Pro Primer, Marcelle BB Cream and Cinema Secrets concealer. Create your own flawless face. This is the most important step.
Cheeks: Hard Candy Hide and Glow Cheek, Cheek Tint Duo in Pillow Talk, and Glow Away Bronzer & Highlighter Duo, in Bora Bora. See placement above. I used the highlighter (1) on the peak of my cheek bone, and the bronzer below (3). Oops, that should say (2) for Pillow Talk’s pink side (not the peach end) in between- right on the apples of my cheeks, between the highlighter and bronzer. See the unblended photo below. Blend, and reapply to desired finish. Add a powder blush on top to set to a beautiful longer-lasting finish. See bottom photo below. I love the Sun Peached Glow Minieral blush by Vasanti Cosmetics or Nars’ Desire powder blusher.
The Hard Candy Duo Cheek Tint (available in In Love, Pillow Talk $8) and the Highlighter and Bronzer Duo (available in Maui, Tahiti and Bora Bora) are very easy to blend. Glides on smoothly, and has a light to medium buildable finish. I still prefer Nars’ Multiples (for eyes, lips and cheeks- and body!) Love Copacabana on shoulders, and down the legs’ shin bone for a slimmer leg “illusion” haha! I like the blendable Nars Multiples and their creme to powder finish. But at only $8.00 each at Walmart, these duos are worth it. See the top left image in the collage above, and you’ll see that the Hard Candy marbled highlighter, though a bit more shimmery, makes a great dupe for the cult fave Copacabana Multiple by Nars $46.00
Eyes: Nars Pro Prime, Revlon Colorstay Smoky Crayon in Smolder ($8.00, Rexall), Laura Mercier Kohl pencil in Brown Copper, and the taupe and platinum eyeshadows from her sampler palette (see photos). Maybelline Lash Blast mascara. Fill in brows for a full frame with brow powder and pencil. I used Laura Mercier Brow Duo in Ash over Paul & Joe brow duo pencil 02.
I have the Cover Girl Smoky Shadow Blast duo in the copper shade in my personal makeup kit and often use it as a base, but these Revlon Colorstay Smoky Shadow Sticks (available in 5 shades) are really long-wearing. They’re crease resistant and stated to last a good 12-hr wear. My verdict? Blends easily. Absolutely long-wearing. But it does smudge, especially under the eye. So I still set it with a bit of setting powder.
Application: Create a matte clean-eye canvas, with Laura Mercier Eye Basic (I use shade: Wheat). See above images for these steps -
1) Use the rounded end across top lashes and apply all over eye lids. Blend upwards and outwards.
2) Use the pointed end of the stick (darker green) to define the top lash line and build color up, focusing on the outer corners.
3) Apply pointed end along the lower lash line, again focusing on the outer corners.
4) Apply Laura Mercier Kohl liner in Brown Copper (or black eyeliner for a bolder, more sophisticated look). Line the top lash line and extend a little past the last lash to a subtle wing, and draw along the bottom water-line. Smudge it into the Colorstay crayon along the bottom lashes.
5) Take a Taupe or Bronze shadow and soften the edges along the crease of the eyelid (or use as a bridge shadow) blending back and forth to avoid harsh lines.
6) Add a “pop” of highliting pearl or shimmer shadow just above the iris,on the center of the lower lid and pat to blend into the Colorstay Shadow. Curl lashes and apply mascara.
Lips: I love the Mauve Collection from L’Oreal Paris, and forgot to add this shade to my last blog post on Lips: violet hues. I used Mauve Mania in this look. 2 layers and blotted to balance the more shimmery eye look.
